And yeah, I bet Putin is quaking in his designer wingtips.

One thing that might ought to bother him some would be the reaction of the Russian people and also from some of his supporters. Maybe it is our media only reporting on the people who don't like it, but it does not sound like
the action has huge public support.

    It is hard to say.

Spanish media is bent on Portraying Putin as a modern day Hitler who invades countries for no reason, so if he had any sort of support *anywhere*, it would not be reported.

Most Russians I know don't like Putin. I think popularity is only important if you are a leader in a regular democracy: if elections are rigged you only need the support of the people who runs the State machinery for you. THe rest of the population may complain, but as long as they have food and circus they won't be troublesome at all.

I have Russian friends and I have talked to them privately. I don't think anyone but Putin and the Russian mass media are for this invasion.

As far as I understand, Russia is a lot like India. Urban areas are kind of advanced, well supplied and well serviced, but when you walk out of the big towns, civilitiation comes across as something from before the industrial revolution :-)

I think Putin is very proactive defending the interest of the Russian government, but I am not sure he is at defending the interests of the common Russian people.

That is like the status is most countries right now. The governments are running amuck. Russian government, Canadian government, and the US government. All running amuck with the vast amount of citizens (real ones - not dead or artificial) are against them.

Freedom is always getting attacked by governments, other countries, etc. It is one of those things the government tries to nibble at taking away, but lately has been unhinged. Looks of opporunities seen right now by the power control nutty politicians.

People have finally had enough and things will very likely take a drastic swing back to sanity.
