    Hello All,

So I wanted to try out the new Slackware Linux 15 today as a VM. Tried to get it from here but I was told it was a 16 hour download (!). So I connected to my server at home and downloaded the ISO there. Took all of 85 seconds. I am using gFTP via SFTP to get the ISO here. 3.5GB and so far I am getting 555kb/s out of the hospital's WiFi. I am glad it is Sunday and no IT staff are here or else I'd be throttled for sure. Still a 90 minute download but better than 16 hours.

IT Manager: Well, we know it's not porn... leave it be"...

Just like in the good old days. Or, wait... 16 hours would have been like... 173 MB on a 33600 modem. :-D

    Quite a difference! :-O

    Enjoy your Slackware.

Slackware is the last general purpose Linux distribution I find bearable for personal
use :-) Too bad their release engineering is a bit sub-par. I love that you can use it
as a great development platform since you can paste a ports-like system on it easily.

I had a G4 but had to sell it for much-needed funds.

I ran Slack for nearly 20 years. I switched to Devuan a while back but I do like how it doesn't fall into dependency hell like Devuan and others do.
The new Slack 15 is pretty nice.

    SlackBuilds is very handy, yes.

To be honest, I prefer FreeBSD over GNU/Linux but FreeBSD isn't quite ready
to be useful for my personal system.

I am switching most of my systems to OpenBSD as of late. I only have a personal laptop running Linux left.

I am kind of pissed at Slackware 15 because it eats more battery power away than its predecesor. Slackware 14.2 came with pm-utils, which you could use for running power management scripts. Slackware 15 ditched it for elogind which simply has no real power management. I am a bit sore from that.

I know it is a bit of a pety thing to be pissed off about, but my experience with Linux is that it usually works better after each upgrade so when the trend throws an exception it bothers me :-)
