Is this bad news for my hdd?

    https://susepaste.org/90068115

That is the result on my T60 currently operating XP, and I luv
    it.

I have been contemplating upgrading to SSD and at least 500GB
    to 1TB.

Porting everything over to a newer Win would be troublesome.
The T60 is maxed at 3GB ram as well, so it can't really support
Win7 for example. (But maybe that would be worth a try) - I've
    witnessed a Dell Optiplex with 2GB ram and hosting Win7 - it's
    not too bad in performance.

And.. the linux option is out of the question. I need to
maintain a current workflow especially with MS Access 2007.

you can run windows 7 on 1gig of ram. right now i have a guy running
a bbs on 1gig of ram that can go to 2gig when needed.
    3 gigs would be fine.

i used to run win7 on a netbook that had 1 gig of ram.

i used to run win7 on a netbook that had 1 gig of ram.

Wasn't there a special downscaled version of Win7 for the
    netbook machines?

And from what I read about netbooks was that users quickly
outgrew their limited usefulness and wanted more resources and
more options instead. But at reduced ram like 1GB ram that was
    simply not possible.

    I don't recall what bitversion (32/64) the Win7 I witnessed on
2GB was, but certain things were simply horribly slow. Even
deleting marked emails in Thunderbird took way too long before
control was released to the user. So, to operate a windowed
environment at 2G or less? ..no thanks.

I think I'll give Win7/32 a try when I settle with replacing my
240GB HDD with a 1TB SDD for starters.

I ran my BBS on a T60 with 3MB of RAM and the 32-bit version of Windows
10 for 2 years. Worked well with Synchronet, WinAMP and Shoutcast 24/7.
The only reason I took it down was to consolidate boxes and run the BBS
as a virtual host in my homelab (also running on a Thinkpad, albeit
more modern). But it's still running on a 32-bit Windows 10 OS in a 3 GB
    virtual machine.

Interesting. That's a vote of confidence then. Excellent.
But I think I'll just leap to Win7/32 at the right opportunity.

The SSD arrived yesterday. Now, I need to wait for the SATA/
    USB cable.

I seriously doubt that. First of all, the amount of data I
need to move is over 200MB. What USB stick could support that
on a PC with USB2 ports? Second, after reinstalling Windows
from scratch, it would require re-installing all my programs
    one by one.

Please understand that the asinine suggestion to reinstall Windows is coming from a Captain-Obvious troll completely devoid of any serious professional IT background or skillset.

I haven't "reinstalled" Windows or any apps for years now. Everything here is hot-imaged. The XP BBS and Windows 10 computers can all be restored without breaking a sweat. Same with the dozens of critical-systems at my job... reinstalling anything would be completely out of the question.

The idea is that with a hot-image you now have some flexible options, that can be deployed to different hardware. For example take a snapshot of the
current XP system and deploy the image to a newer system OR keep it as a backup and do an inplace-upgrade to Windows 7. Then take another image snapshot and restore to the new system. You would then just need to update the drivers on the new system once the image is running.

Just some ideas... but "reinstall Windows" to me is absolutely hilarious.

Likewise.. I have always had a fondness for images. That has
simplified restorting to a pc that might have needed a new HDD
    on the same HW.

Yup. The plan is to first clone the original HDD onto the SDD,
resize the current C partition from its current 35GB to
something like 60GB, and then do a similar resize operation on
the H partition, and then drop it into my T60 laptop.

Just some ideas... but "reinstall Windows" to me is absolutely hilarious.

    Right. That ain't gonna happen.

At best, I would consider migrating to Win7 and take advantage
    of TRIM.

Some programs are fine tuned for XP and may not exist anymore.
I rely on many different programs at any one time that have
    been amassed over 10-12yrs.

That's the hope, but only AFTER the XP system is imaged to its
    new home on the SDD.
