I just received a Dell computer with Windows 11 pre-installed. I purchased it because I
didn't own 1 computer capable of the Windows 11 O/S. I got a great deal on it so I
didn't mind buying it so I could try it out.

What a chore for me to install all of the programs that I normally use on a daily basis!
Since I do web design, I need my HTML editing program, and then I had to enter each
website along with its log in and password so I can easily reach the site when needed.
That only took me about an hour since I have quite a few that I own or manage :(

I had to install RoboForm so I can easily retrieve all of my passwords. I had to install
Malwarebytes as well. I know there has been some negative feedback about the program, but it is a necessity for me because most of my domains are online Directory
sites where anyone can submit their site to. I do not add any that come back as
potential malware sites.

I had to set up my Remote Desktop so I can reach my main hobbylinebbs.com server
when needed.

I am sure there are more programs that I will need to add in the future.

Anyway, I still think it is money well spent as Windows 10 support will end next year and
I want to be ready.

All that is required when working with them is to copy them from one computer to another. I also replaced many programs with JS scripts. They play the role of applications. I don't remember the last time I installed something through Install. In general, it remains a mystery to me why people need new versions of Windows...

I didn't really need it, but I do so much work on computers for others, I really wanted to familiarize my self with it. I am still using my old computer as my main one.

I can sympathize but can't agree with that. I somewhere between dislike and hate most versions of Windows created since Windows 98, which I was still
using as recently as 3 years ago. The problem is that the Operating Systems eventually stop allowing the installation of ANY Browser or eMail programs
that use the newer security protocols and so those programs eventually stop functioning on almost all Web Sites and with most eMail suppliers.

My current Windows 7 Laptop is slowly becoming less and less useful so I recently purchased a new Laptop able to run Windows 11, which I am putting off switching over to as my main system for as long as possible.

Then there's the issue of newer Windows not able to run old software. Most of my entertainment software is from the Windows 98 era and I will likely soon find myself running two machines, one just for web surfing and eMail, and the other for all my fun stuff..

Our family. which includes my son, owns 2 Chromebooks, 3 desktops, 3 laptops. I guess
you could call us a multiple machine family. Of course, the son also has a couple X-
Boxes. We are covered for any event. Oh, and I almost forgot the tablet that I use
when I play the organ. It contains all of my sheet music.

Yes, but no. Not everyone uses Solid Works or the latest Autocad. Regarding new browsers. There is a whole line of modern browsers for Windows 2000-XP/2003. You can look at http://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com Everything works great. I don't know where you got this strange information from. Browsers with TLS 1.3 support for Windows 98 can be downloaded from my gopher. By the way, it's only been a week since I switched from Opera mail 1044 to MailNews. Everything works, everything is received and senting. Regarding things like Skype or Tinder. Sorry, this was not initially for me, 10 years ago.
By the way, some "latest programs" can easily be replaced by JS applications. For example, I view PDF files through such a script, since Foxit cannot open some PDF files. So I just use scripts and the browser as those new applications. After all, isn't this the philosophy of Android?

Hello

A good thing is, if you have a mixture of "everything"!

As I planned to reopen the BBS, I rebuild my BBS Hardware of that time.
It was an Pentium III with 800 Mhz and OS/2 Warp 4.

Putting back my old DAT-Backup with PcTools and get my PcBoard v15.3....

But..!!! 25 years are 25 years... It stays, what it was....
It's not that bad for the brain if you have to deal with config.sys and autoexec.bat again

And maybe some laugh..... I've putting back my old Amiga 2000/68030
with a Networkcard into my Network here. It's just fun when things go the
way you imagined. Even with old hardware and software!

I don't want to sound boring, but I literally edited config.sys a couple of hours ago to make Qemm work better on a DOS based servomotor system. The truth is, I've been doing essentially the same thing for the last 25 years. Sometimes I even doubt that it is 2024. The most powerful update of the gas analyzer has been released for Windows 98.... There are few innovations in the world of industrial equipment. In any case, welcome to the club!
