    2017-20:

The peanut gallery: "Russian collusion! Russian interference!
    Orange Man Bad!"

    2021:

President Joe Biden nominates Saule Omarova to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Omarova, born in the USSR and educated in Soviet-era Russia, once called banking the "a--h--e industry." She has in the past voiced a opinion that private banks (and bank accounts) should all be merged into one central, government-owned-and-run bank where, presumably, the government can keep a better eye on the banking habits of its citizens.

She has also voiced opinions that make it sound like she would be OK with
the US energy industry going bankrupt if it hurried about a quicker
migration to green energy. Nevermind that it would put a lot of workers
out of jobs, or the affect it would have on our economy as a whole, right?

She attended Moscow State University on a Lenin academic scholarship, and
wrote her thesis lauding the economic and revolutionary views of Karl Marx. Reference to this thesis existed in her CV in 2017 but has mysteriously vanished in the copies currently floating around Congress.

The peanut gallery: <sound of crickets chirping>

Strange how people so concerned about Russian influence and interference in
our government don't seem to have any issue with a former citizen of the USSR being involved in our banking system.

    Funny how quickly times change.

    Hello Mike,

    2017-20:

The peanut gallery: "Russian collusion! Russian interference!
    Orange Man Bad!"

Indeed. Do you remember when Donald Trump took the word of Putin over American intelligence agencies?

    2021:

President Joe Biden nominates Saule Omarova to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Omarova, born in the USSR and educated
in Soviet-era Russia, once called banking the "a--h--e industry." She

government-owned-and-run bank where, presumably, the government can
keep a better eye on the banking habits of its citizens.

You make her sound like a Russian spy! She is an American citizen.

During the George W. Bush administration Omarova served in the department of the treasury as a special advisor om regulatory policy to the under secretary for domestic finance.

She attended Moscow State University on a Lenin academic scholarship,
and wrote her thesis lauding the economic and revolutionary views of
Karl Marx. Reference to this thesis existed in her CV in 2017 but has mysteriously vanished in the copies currently floating around
    Congress.

Omarova is currently the Beth and Marc Goldberg Professor of Law at Cornell Law School, where her work focuses on financial regulation and corporate governance. She is a Senior Berggruen Fellow at the Berggruen Institute in Los Angeles. That's who Omarova is.

The peanut gallery: <sound of crickets chirping>

    Uh huh.

Strange how people so concerned about Russian influence and
interference in our government don't seem to have any issue with a
former citizen of the USSR being involved in our banking system.

    Funny how quickly times change.

You need to keep up with the changes.

Not funny at all. Lefties are always "Rules for thee, but not for me."

I never said she was a spy. I pointed out her opinion of the banking
industry. Are saying she didn't voice an opinion about there being one
central bank? Maybe you need to keep up with the changes.

During the George W. Bush administration Omarova served in the department of the treasury as a special advisor om regulatory policy to the under secretary for domestic finance.

Doesn't matter. If she believes in a central, government-owned bank, she
is a problem. Our government dips its dirty hands into any
government-owned or administered funds. Social security, government-run pension funds, tax money that was collected for another purpose... you name
it, it becomes their personal slush fund. Unless, of course, it is their own pension funds... they keep their hands out of those.

Considering your past defenses of the totalitarian Chinese government, this
is no suprise. Considering that you are not a US citizen, and have no skin
in our game, it is also no surprise.

I never said she was a spy.

No you didn't. You did mention that she was born in the USSR and educated in soviet era Russia!

And wrote her pro-Marxist thesis. My concern is not about her being a spy, especially since the USSR is no more, but the fact that her beliefs go
against the idea of a free-market economy. If none of that matters, why
start hiding her thesis from her CV now?

She might be perfect for somewhere where the government has partial or full control of the economy, but not here.

I pointed out her opinion of the banking industry. Are saying she didn't voice an opinion about there being one central bank?

I made no mention of what she did or did not say.

But you claimed she was qualified after I pointed those things out, which
means you must feel her opinions are ok. Her opinions are as much an issue here as anything else. Where she is from is only an ironic bit.

I thought you would say something like that.

Why is she OK for the GWB admin but not the Biden admin?

I never said she was OK then, either. Unlike you apparently, I do not
believe the actions of one side are always good, and the other is always
bad. So, GWB was not perfect. Better than anyone we've had since, but not perfect.

Considering your past defenses of the totalitarian Chinese government, this is no suprise.

I have made no defense of any totalitarian government. Chinese or otherwise.

Anytime China comes up... "our relationship with them is a complicated one" while deflecting any criticism of them. Defense, maybe not directly, but complancency (probably because they pump a lot of money into Western
    Canada), most certainly.

Have you had your COVID booster yet? I have.

    Extreme!

Her opinions are the worrisome bit. The Soviet Russia bit is just the delicious irony.

Be prepared for a dance-off as Al and Jeff-T compete to defend her views.
Al's already got a good head start. Jeff is falling behind.

Maybe she'll be just fine, but it sure looks like Joe's preparing this country
    for an extreme makeover!

Yesterday, there was a story on PBS news about the President and inflation. They went over the things he could do... pressuring OPEC, tapping into the strategic oil reserve... while tap-dancing around the important bit about
how one of the things he did... cutting our own domestic production... has
as much or more to do with soaring prices than any of those other things do.

They also interviewed someone who pointed out that this was the worst
inflation we've had since.... drum roll... Jimmy Carter's administration.
Many of the news outlets have been saying "past 30 years," but this
economist pointed out that it's been 40 years. He also pointed out that
    (1) many people alive now were not old enough then to remember how bad it
was, and (2) while it is the worst since then, back then they'd have been thrilled with the current inflation rate vs. what we actually had then.
