Is this where we are as a country now, with summary executions lacking any
due process for crimes that don't even carry the death penalty?

Only Congress can determine the penalty for treason. But what
exactly is treason? Who defines it? And who interprets it to mean
what it is claimed to be? Read Article II, Section 4.
