I'm not sure about that, but in order to get a driver's license, one already must know how to drive. Learner's permits are available for those learning to drive. Various courses are available, but parents are also allowed to teach their children to drive. For students who pass a recognized course, only a state driving test is required. For parent-taught students, both written and driving tests are required.

Well, while you're analyzing our priorities, 18-year-olds *are* reminded to sign up for the Selective Service (draft), which is kind of weird because
it's mandatory and they know who is old enough but they still require people

The assumption of the original poster was that getting a license was easier that registering to vote. As far as I know, they will not prevent you from registering at these places even if you don't want a license.

prevent you from registering at these places even if you don't want a license.

If I remember correctly, it's a checkbox on one of the forms filled out for getting a driver's license. It's not a separate form, at least not in Texas.

No, I, the original poster made no "assumption" like that, I only asked why the state regarded it more important to send out personal info on one subject and not the other.

As I've said repeatedly now, out here in the true democratic world, every citizen is automatically registered as a voter at birth. So it's a wee bit alien to us, all those voter registration obstacles, trying to prevent people from casting the "proper" (GOP) vote.

My state seems to send out plenty of voting info. On the other hand, I
don't remember receiving any info when I turned 16. It was mine and my parent's job to find the training booklet and find out where I was supposed
to go to take my tests.

And that really is the way it should be. Participants vote with

My native language is Cajun French. Had no choice but to speak
that language when I was growing up, as it was total immersion.
Imagine going to kindergarten and saying the Pledge of Allegiance
in Cajun French, singing the Star-Spangled Banner in Cajun French,
and everything else children are taught to do by their teacher -
who spoke only Cajun French and not a word of English.

In New Orleans, most folks speak a language known as yat. Kind of
a mix of several languages. Understood by everyone here, but very
foreign to those outside the area.

That is how strong the French language is among people in Louisiana.
"Who dat?" is not just a phrase that was made up as a Saints chant.
It is the way people really do speak here.

We understand each other just fine here. We do not view ourselves
as having any accent, as it is those who outside who have an accent.

Louisiana tourism motto: Come to Louisiana. Leave different.

POTUS. He had so much fun we really do have to invite him to return.

Randy Newman is scheduled to perform at JazzFest, and he is great.
I saw him in concert years ago in Shreveport, when his song "Short
People" hit the top of the charts. The gal I was with at the time
never forgave me, as he poked fun of everybody. Short people, tall
people, crippled people, fat people, skinny people, retarded people,
you name it.

I hope the gal I bring to JazzFest is more forgiving.
