What happened? This used to be one of Fido's busiest echos & now it's EMPTY???
I was in here some 20+ years ago, having a grand time pointing out errors in assumptions to atheists & theists alike. . .
I know "God Dan" is hanging on Facebook these days, but he's about the oly ne I've seen since Y2K. . . oh, the lady whose name I always forget, but who was a feisty debater!
Anyone left in here willing to give it a go & put your stance up for public discussion/polishing?
It used to be all about flaming believers, but I don't like that model -- I'd rather see it be a place to discuss different viewpoints of the universe, including the non-physical, equally "real," aspects. . .
& for all to take part in pointing out errors in consistency(with one's own arguments, with history, with science, with others of their belief sector, etc.)
Fine, I'll start; have at it;
I was raised without a denomoniation, mostly as a Golden Rule adherent (Do unto others as you'd prefer they do unto you.); I went to a Baptist Sunay School only because it was the closest that believed in thevalue of the family.
I spent my first 22 years as a stolid & offensive athiest.
After my brain injury & partial paralysis in 1990, I had time to reflect (& more importantly, listen) & realized that God(as a general, non-sectarian concept) is real; the only metaphor I was familiar with was Christianity, so I startred there, studied much with others & on my own, & became just as virulent a promoter as I'd been of atheism.
I've always been honest, t hough, & open to new facts, even if they counter those I believe to be solidly proven. I kept asking questions (as is my nature
-- Curious George is real) & eventually ran into too many non-answers or contradictory ones about Christianity. This led me to slowly discover & study Judaism.
In Judaismn I was delighted tolearn they're not about pat answers -- a question is as liable to ghet 10 new questions in return as an answer(said answer usually leading to other questions, too); I loved this -- more learning, more study.
When I got to the point that my Jewishness was as much a part of who I amn, as is my maleness (I'm pre gender-fluidity), I went through formal conversion to Judaism.
My practice/observance of it is evolving, but my Jewishness is still 100% real & sincere.
I still keep up the learning, of religion(s), sciences, history, & 'most anything else that catches my interest.
Go ahead attack any of this. If you use presuppositional arguments on any angle, I'll tell you right now: you're wrong.
AMA as the kids say. . . :)
But I prefer a friendlyu discourse over a flame-ladebn one, but if you prefer the latter, be ewarmned, I grwew up in Mission, BC, I can give as good & better than I get without even expending any real mental effort.
If I put the effort in, I'll reduce you to a puddle of quivering & ashamed mess of wrongness.
Or have some laughs -- crack wise, tell jokes, be funny, be punny. . .
The echo is utterly empty, I can't see there being any hard & fast rules here.
