    The Fidonet HAM Echo Rules
    Updated 14 February 2022

    Moderator: Sean Dennis KS4TD (1:18/200 or sysop@outpostbbs.net)

HAM is for the discussion of amateur radio in all of its forms.

By your participation in this echo, you agree to the following rules:

    * Real names are required to be used in this echo. No aliases. If
your BBS software will not allow you to toggle between real name and
alias in the message header, sign your message with your real name.

    * If you are a licensed amateur radio operator with a valid callsign
in your country, please include it in your messages.

    * All messages must be in English. You may post a message in your native
language as long as an English translation accompanies the native
    post in the same message.

    * No blatently off-topic posts such as BBS ads, "test" messages,
    et cetera.

    * Any traffic concerning Fidonet matters, such as alleged "echo
hijackings", complaints about other echoes and their moderators,
or any traffic construed as such by the moderators is OFF-TOPIC.
Absolutely none of that is allowed in this echo and violators will
be dealt with swiftly. Please take such discussion to netmail or
    another appropriate echo.

    * Be civil and have a sense of humor.

    * Please don't gate this echo to USENET, a mailing list, another BBS
mail network, an online Fidonet mail archive, or anything else
without the moderator's express and written permission. This is
a Fidonet echo and needs to stay in Fidonet.

    * This echo does not recognize any local or regional echomail policies
such as EP1. This echo originates in Zone 1 and follows Zone 1 policies
    concerning the "echolist".

    * The moderator has the final say in dealing with problems in the echo.
If you have something to say about a moderator's action, please
contact them via netmail (preferred) or email.

    * This is a living document and will be adjusted as needed.

    * This document will be posted on the 1st and 15th of each month and
    when needed.

    * Please don't hesitate to contact the moderators with any questions.

Thank you for your participation in HAM!

    O:)

no... i had plans to get my license waaaay back in the '70s but couldn't get morse down well enough... discovered (very) loud music, computers, and rocketry instead... i know that things have been relaxed since then but these days i (still) just listen to the bands when i decide to fire up the radio... at this time, i have to find it, though... not sure were it has gotten off to... it is a heathkit receiver that we built... but gotta find it first... otherwise only the stuff that streams on the 'net is available...

I have wondered too if You had a FCC License.
Thanks for the post the Sean.

I realize the messages in this echo/forum are old but I just had to post replies to You and earlier to Sean.
(I think I'm writing to Mark instead of Sean ).

Even the sophomore Hams knew me as LID Vance.

I haven't been on the ir since 2019 when lightning hit my shack.

The good thing is a friend is selling me a Kenwood TS-440S for $50. I have
a Ten-Tac antenna so I souold be ragchewing soon. Need to buy some more QSL cards.

Rob is trying to address it. Looks like a Dove node has a config error and
Rob has shut off their posting abilities until they confirm that the issue
is fixed. There has been a small discussion in the Dove HAM echo.

Messages posted on this end are showing up there, but messages from there
are not showing up here. Someone answered your Field Day post over
    there. ;)

Evidently it was a misconfigured Mystic system that was doing it. I wasn't aware that Mystic had QWK networking. Thanks to Rob to looking quickly into it.

If someone asked me if they could gate HAM to DOVE-Net properly, I'd most likely say yes. It's not that I'm against gating, as you know being my Micronet gate, but I just want to know about the gating.

I'm looking forward to participating in Winter Field Day. It's been five

    Not familiar with the TS-440.
    After seeing a friends TS-520 I bought a TS-520S.
Wonder if TS-520S are sold for that low of a price now a days?
The S model had to have a inverter power supply attached to go Mobile with it so I got that for mine.
Bought mine some time after the 27 Mc/s Bootleggers were buying up $350.00 USD Yeasu FT-101 XCVRS .
Yeasu doubled the price of their 101 this when I got my 520S it cost $700 plus. That 101 had AM Mode to make it popular with the Bootleggers, I had a Heathkit TX-1 Apache for AM. Still do.
'cept no 27 Mc/s Band on the TX-1.
    Don't need 11Meters.

I might had gotten interested in CB but I was 't old enuf when it started IIRC in September 1958.
I was 16 years old and would have had to be 18 to get Licenced by the FCC. THREE MONTHS earlier I passed my Novice Exam and got my KN4ZIQ call.
    Didn't need CB anyway then.

i don't agree. the periodic rules posts mysteriously weren't gated across. somebody knew what was up and pretended they didn't after the fact.

yeah i certainly wouldn't mind it either if i knew it was reliable. i'd just unsub the dovenet ham one because i see the posts near instant with binkp+fidonet..

    Hi Ed,

    More info: https://www.rigpix.com/kenwood/ts440s.htm

This particular model has excellent audio. I can hear it clearly without my hearing aids.

I couldn't find one for sale.

CB is somewhat active around here, believe it or not.

Thanks for the link so I could see what ur TS-440 looked like.

I was thinking the 440 was HF since the only Kenwood 2M rig I once owned had 4 numbers after the TS, Me wrong , it looks like ur 440 is for 2M.
    DUH!
    .
My General Coverage RX hasn't been onfor years, so I have no idea of activity on11M.
I live near a large City so I would guess CB would be fairly active around here.

I haven't seen any long whip antennas on any cars for ages.

Last time I honked HI on my car horn. after seeing a Amateur Radio license plate on a car has been ages ago too.
