Quoting Dale Shipp to Dave Drum <=-
we had a bird feeder. It was filled with a mixture of seeds
and most songbirds liked it. OTOH, robins stuck to the grass
area. Maybe they ate grass? I had always just assumed that
DS. they were after bugs and worms.
A lot of small songbirds are primarily seed eaters but robins do
indeed like earthworms. They also eat grubs, insects, grasshoppers
and fruit and berries. They aren't grass or seed eaters.
We are now in a northern "heat wave" (79F) so I have set aside my
strong Galliano martinis and brandy & cherry whisky Manhattans and
am surviving on copious quantities of spiked ice tea. My basic
recipe is 3 ice cubes, 8 to 10 oz of cold Red Rose brand Orange Pekoe
Indian black tea and 1/2 to 1 oz Creme de Cassis, just enough to
add a little flavour. But I have found that almost any kind of tea
or fruity tisane tastes great with almost any red berry eau de vie,
liqueur, or juice. So I have been using Celestrial Seasonings Wild
Berry Zinger tisane, cherry whisky, Framboise and cranberry cocktail
as well. Sometimes I add a little lemon juice and honey to the mix.
Cheers
Jim
