Poland and the Czech Republic will close their airspace to Russian airlines from midnight. Both countries have decided this in consultation as a result of the war in Ukraine. Polish airline LOT has suspended its flights to Moscow and Saint Petersburg on Friday afternoon.
The United Kingdom decided on Thursday to close its airspace to Russian aircraft. Russia responded on Friday by in turn imposing a ban on British airliners.
The European aviation authority EASA announced on Thursday that airlines must avoid Ukraine because of the Russian invasion. "Extreme caution" must also be exercised within 185 kilometers of the borders with Belarus and Russia. Ukraine already closed its airspace to civil aviation in the night from Wednesday to Thursday.
