China is closing its airspace to Russian Boeing and Airbus aircraft. This was reported by the Russian news agency RBK. The legal status of the aircraft has become very uncertain due to Western sanctions against Russia.
Many of the planes were owned by Western leasing companies. They withdrew from Russia, but Moscow refused to surrender the aircraft. It registered them in their own country. This shift means that Russia can no longer present the correct papers to the Chinese authorities.
Due to the sanctions, Russia also no longer receives parts to maintain the aircraft.
