we get some real ACTUAL support from y'all, instead of jumping on the bandwagons of demonizing us.

I don't support "pride". I could care less what your or anyone else does
in the bedroom. It really is at the very BOTTOM of the list of causes that
we should be worried about. You sleep with / love who ever the hell you

How did I do that, by assuming you're a straight white man? The level of entitledness you display tends to be indicative of straight white men. I

That sounds like a bigot flag to me right there.

Yes. I also don't see straight white men having such a monopoly on entitledness, either. I see it in a lot of younger people regardless of
    race, gender, or sexual orientation.

They also mistake older people who worked hard for what they have as
"entitled" when they just want to protect what they've earned. The key
there is they "worked hard" for it and don't expect anything above what
they worked for, unlike the entitled youth who thinks their short time of (maybe) working entitles them to the same things.

They also think that social media personality = a career.

Projection tends to be the main MO of all of these types, the ones that hate on
LGBTQ people & call us groomers & pedos. The haters are the ones that truly >want to be pedos, they've even shown us by trying to make child marriage legal.

I don't think he has called them all groomers and pedos. That said there
are persons who have indeed tried to get under the LGBTQ+ unbrella that all groomers and pedos. My understanding is that most LGB community members
are just as concerned about that as straight people are, and they don't
want the groomers/pedos in their community. I am guessing you fall into
    that "concerned members" group?

Who tried to make child marriage legal recently? I know historically
people did get married off at very young ages, but I have not seen any push
to have that happen here in the US lately.

Who tried to make child marriage legal recently? I know historically people did get married off at very young ages, but I have not seen any push to have that happen here in the US lately.

Missouri tried to ban child marriage but ran into resistance from house republicans.

The committee's chair, Rep. Jim Murphy, a St. Louis-area Republican, said in an interview that there aren't enough votes within the committee to get it to the House floor.

Seven of the 14 committee members oppose the legislation and disagree with raising the state's marriage age, he said. "It's on the.going 16 to 18,"

Murphy, who supports the bill, said of the opposition. "There's just enough members in that committee that don't think that's a good idea." One of those lawmakers is Rep. Dean Van Schoiack, a Savannah Republican and vice chair of the committee. Van Schoiack said in an interview that he knows people who got married as minors, including a woman at roughly age 17. The couple, he said, is "still madly in love with each other."

"Why is the government getting involved in people's lives like this?" Van Schoiak said. "What purpose do we have in deciding that a couple who are 16 or 17 years old, their parents say, you know, `you guys love each other, go ahead and get married, you have my permission.' Why would we stop that?"

I say let them do it, especially if they have children. I'm not for much older marrying younger, though.

I had a kid young and i would have married young if i had the opportunity at the time. we were in a 'common law' marriage for 11 years. that's better than most adults I know.

I also didn't live with my parents until I was 35.

Marriage is such a joke now. People shouldn't marry without an ironclad prenup. Even if you're poor.

Missouri tried to ban child marriage but ran into resistance from house republicans.

OK, so they apparently already are legal if they were trying to ban them.

Who is trying to make them legal in places where marriage between the age
    of 16-18 isn't *already* legal?

Seven of the 14 committee members oppose the legislation and disagree with raising the state's marriage age, he said. "It's on the.going 16 to 18,"

So it is not ok for a 16-or-17 year old to be married (with parental
consent) but it is ok to expose that "child," and ones even younger, to books with pornographic images (just so long as they are same-sex images), even
when the parents oppose the idea?

"Why is the government getting involved in people's lives like this?" Van Schoiak said. "What purpose do we have in deciding that a couple who are 16 or
17 years old, their parents say, you know, `you guys love each other, go ahead
and get married, you have my permission.' Why would we stop that?"

So it is only legal with parental consent. They are not trying to *make it legal*, it is *already* legal.

By the way, you don't have to pick on a "hick state" for this, either. California also allows persons under 18 to marry with parental consent,
    just like Missouri does.

On the surface, I don't think that is a good idea to allow those < 18 to get married, but it sounds like they already do.

Back in the day, before my time (I am over 50), they promoted cigarettes differently. In some cases, I believe that consumers were even lead to
    believe they might be healthy.

By the time I came along, there was already some PSA advertising,
especially from the American Cancer Society, about how smoking could kill
you. They had not yet got to promoting the dangers of second-hand smoke,
or smoking while pregnant, but they'd at least got as far as it could kill
    you.

I had a lot of relatives, but none I lived with, that were life-long
smokers at the time. It was really difficult for them to even consider stopping. What surprised me was how many people my age, and slightly
younger, who picked up the habit despite the dire warnings.

It surprises me even more now that cigarette smoking seems to be making a comeback.

It surprises me even more now that cigarette smoking seems to be
    making a comeback.

We can get rid of more stupid people. I say advertise it, promote it
let them all smoke everywhere again. Who cares!?!? Where did I put my HEALTHY low tar darts?

    Shawn

I have noticed that there's a lot of smokers, and they continue on. It's extremely addicting. I started smoking around 10 and I stopped when i was 28 and I still want a cig when I smell someone smoking one. If you have friends who smoke you pretty much have no chance of quitting.

Back in the day, before my time (I am over 50), they promoted cigarettes differently. In some cases, I believe that consumers were even lead to believe they might be healthy.

Absolutely true. I remember those commercials in the 60's. Every now and then, my wife will point one of the printed ads that gets posted on facebook from time to time.

I'm surprised they didn't show ads with cartoon babies smoking. They probably tried to, but it was shot down.

They had doctors in ads, lucille ball and her husband. They said it relieved fatigue in sports. All kinds of dumb shit.

I don't think ads helped the sales. It's a drug and drugs sell themselves.

in my area they just kept the ashtrays out and paid the little fine.
eventually owners changed and they took that away.

i have mixed feelings. I don't like stinking like cigs.
they should just have bars with smoking and bars with non smoking.

furthermore, part of my reason for quitting is people were always hitting me up for cigs. either random losers on the street or people who quit buying cigs and just borrow from people. totally annoying.

my casino went to non smoking and i wonder how that hurt them. nobody there is going to go into a smoking area. they want to smoke at the machines.

I had a lot of relatives, but none I lived with, that were life-long smokers at the time. It was really difficult for them to even consider stopping. What surprised me was how many people my age, and slightly younger, who picked up the habit despite the dire warnings.

It surprises me even more now that cigarette smoking seems to be making a comeback.

I never had I blood-sugar until after I quit smoking and drinking sodas, etc.. I'ts crazy.. All of it started less than a month after I stopped, But I had also stopped a long bout of an opoid addiction so I'm sure that may have had more to do with a lot of the health issues.

My wife finally quit a little over a year ago. It was killing her. Less that three weeks after quitting, her face had completely changed and she looked much more lively and younger. She can't breathe anymore and she has gained about 20 lbs but I am just so glad she finally quit...

I'm happy I stopped too.. It's crazy I tried and tried to stop smoking numerous times and never could, then one day I just had an epiphany that I was not going to die young and leave a good looking corps like I thought I was going to. That I was actually probably going to live a lot longer than I thought and I wanted my body to be able to keep up with my mind. After that I just could'nt smoke anymore. cigarettes tasted like crap.. I kept a pack in my pocket for a whole week just in case, but I just could'nt light another up.

The opiotes were a little harder to come off of after so many years of use and abuse, it wasnt like I was getting high off them anymore, I was just maintaining. But I'm so happy to be off all that.. And sugary drinks too.. I stopped it all, all around the same time 4 years ago.

To this day I still cannot stand to smell cigarettes and cant stand the taste or the consistancy of a soda, cannot believe I used to consume so much of that crap.

Yep, I've known of a couple people that have died that way. Addiction is bad and one cannot let themselves think that they are above it, or over it.. theres always that one event, sound, smell, or anything that could trigger a relapse. So definaly I stay very aware of that and use time to stop and think. It's definatly not worth it, I have distanced myself from ANYONE I used to hang with. It's far too dangerous anymore to fool with anything, they are putting carfentanil in EVERYTHING, spiking pain pills, xanax. vapes. marijuana, I mean everything. and it's crazy.. there is definatly no room for complacency.

OTOH, about 10 years ago I went out for a few times with another gal who smoked. She was also, IMHO, an alcoholic. She often smelled like an ashtray that someone had spilled stale beer in. I am glad I didn't date
her when I was younger! :o

This is what my supervisor is like, he's a walking ashtray. LOL

Clove cigarettes remind me of hacky sack, college quads, diner coffee, half-read philosophy paperbacks, cheap gas, road trips, and being in my 20s.

    And not of goths? :)

When I was younger (late '80s/early '90s), the folks who smoked clove cigarettes were not goths. Most of the goths that smoked in college smoked
the real ones (and drank like fish).

When I was ~25, I went out for a while with a lady who smoked. I never could figure out how she did it but she never smelled like she smoked. I know she smoked outside often, but I also know she smoked in her car and in other indoor places (you could smoke in restaurants back then, for example).

I knew a women like that, she told me the trick is to hand sanatize before she >came
inside, as well as other washing tricks.

Hand sanitizing wasn't a big thing back then. Washing was though. ;) I
think she used a perfume or lotion that must have either got rid of it or covered it up real good.

Two hookers were talking on a street corner.

One of them asked "Do you smoke when you finish?"

The other one said "I don't know, I never looked."

I've been doing this for years as well. In fact having a club soda
now. It does fool me into thinking I'm not missing out.

I drank tonic waters in clubs with lime and didn't miss the gin - it's
still a favorite drink of mine.

Yes it does. Even when they come in from outside after smoking the cheap native "bag o' smokes".

Ugh, I had a buddy that smoked cloves all the time. I actually had to air ou my clothes even when I'd ONLY been in the same room with him, not even aroun when smoking or anything.

clove cigarettes taste nice but i never thought of how it made those around me smell. now i will rethink that.
