  • Mass Emulation

From Xeno@911:1503/0 to All on Sun Feb 8 23:51:54 2026

I'm interested in emulating all 1980s and 1990s consumer computers. What are the best sources to help me do so? Information on any and all systems would be appreciated.

86Box might be something you'd be interested in... can fire up all sorts of hardware setups pretty easily.

Late 90's brings you into the era of Pentium CPUs, do you need to be
    that current?

The first thing that comes to mind is the MiSTER Pi, it's actually not
Pi based but it can emulate most everything up to about 486SX at 33mhz
I believe, its also a hardware FPGA emulator if accuracy is something you
care about. Getting one is a chore as they are always sold out and you
have to wait for the next batch, price is decent, but not cheap.

Oooh, I've apparently missed the boat on the MiSTER Pi - I'll have to read up on that.

I would agree that more generally the MiSTer/MIST FPGA route is a great solution for superior emulation of all kinds of retro computers though. I've mostly played with the Amiga core on it, myself, but it can do so much, and it does it insanely well in most cases.
