I collected retro computers and consoles for years. I eventually lost interest in the hobby and moved everything to the basement where it sat for years.

We recently decided to move from Utah to Georgia so I sold my entire collection to a retro gaming store in Utah. I sold the collection for less than it was worth but I got a lot more than I paid for it.

I don't really miss the collection. I just emulate anything games I want to play.

I hear that. I got rid of almost all of my console stuff (including both stuff I'd collected, and a lot of the original stuff I had growing up) when I moved long distance ~7 years ago. I felt similarly - I rarely dusted it off and emulation is more than sufficient in almost every case.

The one thing I kept was my vintage PC stuff, and *that* collection has grown exponentially since then, and it still grows here and there. That thing is, I get *way* more enjoyment from collecting this stuff - it's so much cooler, from the manuals, maps, and other feelies, to the fact that I never had much of this stuff when I was younger, so it feels like acquiring stuff I could have never possibly have owned growing up. There's also so much cool old shit I never tried, and in some cases never even heard of.

Besides the sometimes high prices of some of the more sough after stuff, the other issue is that I'm seriously running out of room. I sometimes wonder if I'll keep this all, downsize a bit, or sell it all off when I eventually make the (likely) move back to the East coast... but, eh, that's a problem for future me to worry about. ;)

(I'd love to keep it all, but how practical that is will depend on the circumstances of my move back, I guess.)

This is the same for me, the Amiga 500 and Apple ][e are the only computers I think I would keep, maybe also the Atari 520ST. All of the rest can just go away, we have a local retrocomputer club near Detroit, I only go once a year, but I plan on dumping them all into the "free pile" and making somebody's day. I only collected all of these other extra retro computers because my nephew was getting into it, especially repair videos on youtube, for a while he thought he would like to be a "PC Clone Manufacturer" when he grows up, so I started gathering stuff I found locally and showing him how they get repaired.

He's moved on though, he likes handhelds now, PSP, Nokia phones, gameboys, that sort of thing, so I have also moved on.. :) I guess my only remaining interest in keeping the old retrocomputers is that I might return to making or improving on legacy bbs clients and 6502 assembly is the only machine language I've learned and probably ever will, so I would like to keep at least one of those around.

Last year, I bought a HP Elitedesk 800 G3 Mini Business Desktop and a 2TB SSD. I flashed the drive with Batocera Linux and added some roms and I have an instant emulation computer. If you have tried Batocera you should, it's great. You install it and it just. All the emulators are pre-installed, all you have to do is install the roms.

Do you need to install the BIOS's for each emulator?

    Great distro.

I built my arcade around this.

Yes. This guy puts out a complete BIOs pack with each new release.

Nice! That's the only problem I've had with emulators. With my TrimUI Smart Pro, it came with Retro Arch with all the BIOS's and I got emudrop to
download the ROMs! I also have a Kin Hank 12TB drive full of every ROM up to PS3.
