Back in the early 2000s, my company used AIM for out-of-band incident management and most of our internal comms. We had a proxy server that
acted like an AIM server, so if you were communicating with someone on
the proxy list, the messages never went outside your network. It was a
pretty cool solution for the time, since you could use one client for internal/external comms but keep your internal comms off of AOL's
    servers.

That was the good side. The bad side was that you couldn't run a meeting without people constantly IMing friends and co-workers.

Yea, that one - is so cool... I've seen them show it off @ VCF. So cool.

Super cool - I was into Prodigy/AOL/Compuserve when I was still BBSing back in the day... once I found internet-enabled shell accounts @ my local University, that was the downfall of all of those for me. :P

I've been 'sysoping' Unix/Linux systems ever since.

I've had this running for a few months now for a specific group of friends nostalgic for AIM. It's solid!

Nothing's changed, if anything it's probably worse now!
