i mean that's the short version of it. supposedly there was a government sponsored event and a ton of famous comedians went over and got paid to
do their sets. argument against the human rights violations, etc, etc.
i dunno, it's hard for me to take the complaints too seriously when it's about a comedy festival regardless of the sponsor.
I understand where the complaints come from, but it's not like they're literally nazis and/or we're actively at war with them or something. Could it be considered in bad taste? Sure, but I guess my point is that exactly where that line is at is highly subjective. I thought the whole thing was kind of weird, but I thought the huge backlash was even weirder.
This is kind of a tangent to this topic, but one thing is for sure - more than ever before, we live in an age where controversy and negativity sells. Main stream media has always been accused of drumming up panic about relatively minor issues, but with influencers and social media as a whole these days, so many will take every single opportunity in front of them to flip out about something in order to get more clicks, more viewership.
Before it goes that direction, this isn't a left vs right issue, party vs party, or anything like that, this is EVERYWHERE online, and in every niche. I watch obscure gaming videos which often lead with a super negative title, even if the actual content isn't that negative, and of course, so many have pivoted to focus on negatives and whatever the outrage of the minute is.
In this case, on one hand, if the whistle hadn't been blown then perhaps no one would even know about it, but I also think so much of the backlash felt manufacturer.
