    First Blood takes a different feel when you realize that they started shopping it around not long after the withdrawal from Vietnam. It wou have hit a lot harder in 1978.

    Never read the book, but the movie was decent. And I agree, our soldiers plight after returning (if they returned) was horrifying. Govt put em
    on the back burner and looked the other way. Sad really...

    You're a few years older than me. Was it really like that? Did the government not do enough for our heroes? I'm not happy to hear it, but I appreciate you shining a light on it.

    Of course, "our government" has 2 different meanings depending on what kind of upbringing a person has. My dad is a military veteran. I am a non-woke realist. Fill me in. What kind of shit did the Democrats (and shitty Republicans) do to the veterans who survived 'nam? (Or not do but should have) I'd like to know.

    I have 3 uncles who served in NAM but I don't ask them these things out of respect.

    I fought in two wars and Republicans had "support our troops" as a brand and rallying cry but they treated us like fungible pawns. Democrats actually gave
    a shit about us and passed laws and things which benefitted us.

    I'm glad they helped somebody. They should get back into that again.
