I'll probably try one out sooner or later - maybe Best Buy has demos of them out by now?
A Switch 2 would be double sweet for me since I don't own *ANY* Switch 1 games, plus I missed most of the good exclusive stuff from Gamecube on
so there's an absolute insane amount of content out there for me. If
only they'd make more of those older games available in one way or another.
Until then, I've been considering modding my WiiU. Seems pretty easy to do, and would let me play a lot of good stuff.
Hope so! You used to try to talk me into getting a 3DS and modding it every few months, so I know you loved it. ;)
Nintendo certainly has a great game archive and is always adding - so theres tons of reasons to want to dive in... I just hate that companies not only still do these practices, but still ADVANCE them.
But we gotta have our Mario Kart... :P
Yes, I watched the Linux Tech Tips video about this - I don't love that Nintendo [and 'newly' on the Switch 2] is messing w/ USB-C handshakes to disallow 3rd party products from existing... seems like they want to
force users to buy more $100 Switch 2 docks - and for ZERO good reason.

Not sure. I ordered mine from Nintendo.com. I tried to order another as
a gift and it literally won't let me get another one! Amazon also blocks ordering them unless you get the OK from Nintendo. These things are
pretty locked down. Oh well, I guess I'm glad I got one.
Nintendo has my favorite exclusives, always have and likely always will. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon...fucks my shit /up/. :P But seriously, you're missing out on some great content.
Yeah re: make stuff available, I'm happy with the Steam Deck as an emulation machine. Nintendo makes things available but at a cost, at
their timetable, and lacking some of the typical emulator features we've come to know and love (live saving, cheats, etc).
The Steam Deck is a better Wii U than the Wii U. Seriously. I get more frames playing BOTW on the deck than people get on the Wii U!
I didn't know they still had them locked down. I guess they're trying to keep the scalpers down? I keep seeing reports of them randomly showing
up in the electronic/gaming section at Fred Meyers around here. :P
Definitely. I doubt I'd ever get anything off their e-shop (whatever
they call it these days) for that reason, but I definitely would buy
some newer ports, remasters, or remakes like the ones they're doing for the more recent Zelda games. Seems like they've got a few such titles in the works for the Switch 2.
I mean, not sure how you can compare them. The Wii U came out in 2012 and wasn't exactly cutting edge back then, and the Steam Deck costs quite a bit more... :P Never mind the fact that I already own a Wii U... so... ?!
I hadn't heard of that (I don't follow the Nintendo ecosystem too
closely) but I'm not at all surprised - Nintendo has a long and silly history of doing that sort of backwards ass shit, not to mention
willfully staying well behind the curve on new tech - their online capabilities have been trounced back and fourth by MS and Sony for generations now, and they usually blamed that on safety concerns
(despite having parental features.)
While I'm being bitchy, that price for the docks is absolutely criminal. It was insane on the OG Switch as well - I bet those things cost like 5 bucks to manufacture. :P
It gets delivered Tuesday.
Yea - so... what they did was change the handshake 'language' so that non-licensed USB-C products don't 'just work' with the Switch 2 like
they did with the Switch 1.
I can't think of any good reasons for this - other than wanting to either license 3rd party products, or force users to purchase in-network. Bleck.

Amazing. Pure and simply amazing. I'm glad with my purchase.

If I didn't already have far more on my gaming backlog than free time,
I might get one, but as it is, it's hard for me to justify,
personally.
That's probably the way I should have approached this but...like I say, I'm a Toys R Us kid.
