    First of all, i have to thank JP for letting me into this historically group and of course that he decided to revive it, even if the circumstances are all against us, as a hobby i mean.

    You should have noticed that posting/messages in all echonets has dropped significant, even just the last months. But never the less, that didn't stopped us then, nor will do now.

    For me, getting and working as a group, is a motive to produce even more stuff for the scene, not just us an individual coder, but as a group. My goal, and i believe the goal for the group, is not just to make stuff for others to use and mod their BBSes, but things, that will make others, be motivated, be helped to make their own stuff. So, expect more tutor like stuff and not just mods.

    But being a group member, or for the whole group, doesn't mean that we don't need help, support, ideas, questions or just a little thank you from the scene. We are not obligated to do anything, we do it cause we like so. So being motivated or congratulated from others, is a way to "payoff" us for our work. For sure, no one is obligated to do so, but it helps a lot :)

    So, this particular echoarea, is for anyone to make suggestions, throw ideas, tell his complaints/questions, about the scene or stuff from the group and anything you think that promotes BBSing as a hobby. As i told before, we don't want to just make stuff to use. We want to make stuff, that will help also others to make stuff, learn and love BBSing and textmode as a whole.

    Glad to see the other Demonic members posting here. I enjoyed digging into your Matrix mod; its really well written and, [lulz] unlike SOME of your other BIG mods, its commented very nicely so another sysOp can easily LEARN from the way you're doing the whole lightbar sequence.

    I modified it a bit, with custom ANSI & colors and some code changes - like it just halts instead of hanging up, since on 2o its not used as a 'matrix' right now - its in Paulie's Bar just testing...

    If anyone wants to see SOME ways they can customize it they could l00k there - and I appreciate you giving so much to the bbS world.

    Why not? It's not a JP echoarea :) :p Also, this doesn't mean that I will only post in here.

    This particular mod, was made from the start to be easy, understandable and free to customize. It's made, more to be as a tutor/guide than an actual mod it self :)

    The "other" mods you refer, they never had this intention :) It's also easier to comment on small projects and be sure that the others will understand, than a big one, that may have many references and scattered code. I will try to have more commented code in the future, for sure.

    Right. I think this is going to be one of my goals going forward. Even if I put out some simple menu/text/ACS style mods I'm going to document them so you can learn from it. How to even get started modding is still something I see people returning to the scene and setting up boards struggling with.

    Exactly. I sometimes roll my eyes when I see posts asking about how to do extreme basics ("I just installed Synchronet... how do I change a screen?") but then I remember how totally esoteric and poorly documented this knowledge really is. Even in the 90s that was true, which is kind of how I got into modding in the first place - I sort of figure out some of the basics on my own (-ish) and thought "hey, I can do something cool!" Ha!

    Oh man, this is DEFINITELY how the Linux world felt in the mid 90s. It's so much better these days with so many more people using it, and so many more resources. I'm sure you occasionally still run into the odd application that is a total black box though. :P
