  • AI is ruining YouTube

    I am really getting annoyed by all the AI Slop on YouTube these days. From the obvious AI generated videos that 99% of the people are too stupid to realize aren't real to the lazy creators that use crappy AI for narration.

    If I come across a channel using AI, I just tell YouTube to not recommend that channel anymore. I'm doing the same with all the BS news channels.

    I run into this less on YouTube and more on my social media feeds, especially when it comes to news and tangential details around news stories. It's aggravating, and it's only going to get worse. We already live in a world where people are easily manipulated by media, and that's been intentional abused by both domestic and foreign bad actors to effect at massive scale. Where we're at now with AI feels like its only the tip of the iceberg. :/

    I agree - I even had viewers tell me they didn't like me using AI thumbnails; altho they can be really helpful AT TIMES...

    I do use AI at times for video outlines, but I always go thru and modify even those. However, AI scripts freaking suck - and AI audio is the worst.e

    Maybe, if enough people do that, it'll make a dent - although the number of videos instructing people how to "get rich" creating AI slop videos is increasing as well.

    I've been tempted to use AI to say "write such and such in the same writing style as
    'Poindexter Fortran'. So much of my writing on BBSes has leaked onto the net that AI should
    be able to do a half-decent impression of me.
