Am I the only one still buying physical media? I have 2000+ CDs and
still buy them when new ones come out that I want. Yesterday, I got a
copy of Kreator's new CD Krushers of the World and I'm expecting Megadeth's final CD next week.
According to my Jellyfin dashboard, I have 1316 movies and 70 TV Series total 2500+ episodes on my NAS. I'm currently ripping my new Star Trek Enterprise and Lower Deck blu-ray to add to my totals.
Every piece of media I buy gets immediately ripped and added to my NAS. It's so much easier than getting up, searching for something to watch
then loading it into my blu-ray player.

I just don't feel like I truly own something when it is in purely
digital form. For example, there is a big difference, for me, in having
a .PDF versus a book on my shelf. That isn't a perfect analogy as the reading experience itself is different in physical print versus tablet
or other device, but you get the idea.

Next Iron Maiden tour in September will have Megadeth (and Anthrax!) opening. Beyond stoked for that one!!!

Remember the days, when we had to get out of our chair to turn the dial
to get a different TV station? Where i lived, we only had 3 options... :)
Now, I
have hundreds of channels and countless streaming services and can't
find @#$% that looks good.
Three options! That sounds limited even for the '80s. Were you in a
remote area with little reception?

Anthrax is my favorite band, I've seen them multiple times. The last
time was in 2005 when they opened for Judas Priest. Our tickets were
second row center.
"Teen Wolf". I was so excited!

I'm a massive Slayer fan (for everything up to and including Divine Intervention... everything after that is dead to me). That band was
so absolutely amazing, but I have no interest in seeing their
current lineup.
Kerry lives in midtown NYC now and my wife actually
bumped into him once! I was so jealous!! We were sitting at a
mexican restaurant and she nonchelantly asked me what Kerry King
looks like... I described him and then pulled up a picture on my
phone and she went, "yep, that was him! I just bumped into him while shopping!" AhhhHHHhhHHHHhhHHHH!!!

I know this wasn't Michael J Fox's best work, but I truly enjoyed this movie as a kid. Loved when he surfed on top of the van. :)

Yeah so 10 years ago he noticed his voice was starting to get a little worn away too so he went to the doctor and found out he had throat
cancer. They were able to fix him all up and he sounds great again! I've seen their last 4 tours (I used to abhor arena shows but I feel like
I've "aged" into them!) and he sounds amazing! Actually, as a member of their fan club, I won a special "First to the Barrier" lottery at the
last tour and was able to stand right in front of him in the center of
the stage for the whole show! It was absolutely insane!!!
That's so awesome! This will be my first time seeing Anthrax live so I'm beyond stoked! When I was a teenager, they were already in their John
Bush era and I had no interest in seeing that lineup. SOD would have
been insane to see in their prime but I somehow missed that too. I've
seen MOD though!

While metal was devolving into horrible nonsense, the found refuge in
the punk scene. Exploited were putting out some really great thrash
albums like The Massacre and Beat the Bastards, and the Misfits started
to play again with Graves singing. I think Undisputed made it "ok" for teenage me to crossover into that scene.
I have nothing against Gary Holt and absolutely love Exodus. I
mean, everyone's doin' the Toxic Waltz, right? Bostaph plays on one of
my favorite Slayer albums... but damn, Dave Lombardo is just so special. Ever watch any of the drum cam footage shots of him playing? There's a
few videos on YouTube where it's just absolutely insane watching him do
what he does. Total <bowing> "we're not worthy" situation!
haha right? I was kinda hoping he was going to show up to the Megadeth
movie premier since he was in the band in the beginning... like maybe go incognito in a priest's vestment wearing a wig or something? Sadly,
there were only like 4 of us there!

Hahaha, I was thinking the exact same thing! Kumiko for the win!
I remember being a kid around 86 or 87 and getting our first VCR. My Dad and I went down to the corner used electronics store and bought one. It was huge! We then went to the local video rental and my dad let me get "Teen Wolf". I was so excited!
Most of the concerts here have no seating, so it's general admission. Stand where you want, or jump into the pit.. your choice. Some of the bigger shows are held at the basketball arena (Metallica, and maybe more mainstream stuff), which does have seating. I've never been there,
though.
Hey now, I like some of the John Bush stuff, particularly Sound of White Noise. I get that he and Joey Belladonna sound TOTALLY different but I feel like the band was firing on all cylinders during that period. I'd have loved to see SOD back in their prime - Speak English or Die is one
of my all-timers.
I can't imagine you haven't heard Megadeth's new(er) remake of Ride the Lightning? I kinda liked it. A bit heavier, and his voice has always been better than Hetfield's. When we were kids we always tried to imagine Metallica songs with Mustaine's voice.
I saw Sanctuary, Vio-lence, and Testament in a tiny punk club in SLC
called the Speedway Cafe. It was so small that Testament blew a circuit breaker and we had to wait for it to get fixed. It was OK because the
band came outside and hung out with us. The place had no seats, just a
stage and a pit.

I've seen Iron Maiden a couple of times, once with Anthrax opening. Unfortunately, my back had gotten so bad that I don't think I could last through a concert, either standing or sitting in stadium seats. I guess I'll just have to rely on my memories, while they last.
I remember a popular YT video in which some guy laid out point-by-point a case for Daniel being the villain of the series. Then, a few years later Cobra Kai pops up! I never heard of anyone getting credit for the premise.

Undisputed Attitude actually turned me on to a lot of really great punk bands and started my deeeeeeep descent into that genre! I lived in SF
for a while and was so stoked to finally see Verbal Abuse at a
squathouse because of that album haha

I had no problem with the John Bush era. I was stationed overseas at the time and was confused when I heard the news. I found drummer Charlie Benante's email address, I think it was something like schism@aol.com. I emailed it and asked what happened and he actually answered. I think it was because Joey was a drunk . I remember him on stage in SLC saying it was great to be in Seattle.
I was glad when they went back to Joey. I still like John's work in Armored Saint.
Videodrome! Man, were you starting it off right; that is a brilliant
film. I've been meaning to pick up the Criterion UHD restoration. Thanks for reminding me.
I never did see "10" back in the day. It's not my usual type of film,
And, speaking of my favorite metal drummers, Charlie Benante is
underrated as fuck, and seems like a cool-ass dude to boot. Not actually that surprising that he of all people would reply. :)

Oooof, hard disagree there! I'm not sure I've ever heard someone claim Mustaine's voice was better than Hetfield's before. :P Re: Ride the
Lighting though, the playing is quite good, of course, but Dave's voice really *DOES NOT* work on that song IMHO. Maybe it'll grow on me?! I'm
not hating on Mustaine though - his voice is unique and definitely works really well for a lot of Megadeth's songs. Megadeth wouldn't be Megadeth without it.
He's not just a great drummer, he writes all the music for Anthrax's
song. Scott Ian adds the lyrics.
Hetfield could have been a pop singer, as far as his voice was concerned. Mustaine's voice was much more metal, in my opinion. *shrug* Then again, Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax were more on the lighter side of what I've listened to in my lifetime. ;)
Ha! To be fair, the more poppy Hetfield got with his singing, the less I liked it. His "singing" on their classic thrash albums is great, but
after the Black album he started trying way too hard.
I hear ya. I listen to a lot of faster, heavier, and more obscure stuff
too, but I never got down the unintelligible grunts and growls of a lot
of grindcore, death metal, and the like. I kind of like the higher pitch

While Pantera and Slayer have been my solid go-tos since I was about 15 years old, I've been on a really odd travel path recently. While I had mentioned Lorna Shore, I also checked out WhiteChapel (it's no wonder
most deathcore bands and fans look up to this guy (Phil Bozeman, I believe) - his voice has so much range and dimention, even if it is a
lot of grunting and growling), and a bunch of other deathcore bands I've never heard of before. Then, I went on a wierd youtube trip listening to like ravish dubstep, and then eventually some crazy ass beatboxing (Fuck you, Facebook Reels!). :D
Then after listening to some Lorna Shore and WhiteChapel, catch a
Cannibal Corpse video and by that point they feel kinda soft in comparison. Mfers these days are getting pretty fuckin' heavy! HAHA
I enjoyed the slightly faster tempo and the mix/master of this album
made the track exceedingly tasty to listen to! I actually went to see
the new Megadeth movie on opening night and there was a smile plastered from ear to ear once that track came on. I was also like 4 beers and a bowl of bottomless popcorn into the night...
Total agreement. Those old 7"s are hilarious, like Fuck a Mod and Barmy Army! During the christmas season, my building's super had jingle bells playing in front of his basement apartment on a loop and I couldn't get Fuck a Mod out of my head for all of December as a result haha
Fun story: I used to tour with a (no name, don't get excited) punk band and we opened for the Exploited one night. It was amazing. But what was even more amazing was after the show, Wattie comes up to us asking if he can do his laundry in our bathtub (??). So, we walk him back to the band house which was actually right above the club we were playing at and
shoot the shit with him until 4am, only understanding like 1 in every 10 words he said due to his extremely thick Scottish accent. Then he goes
to the bathroom, fills up our filthy band house bathtub with water and soap and just scrubs his laundry down like it's 1823. When he's done, he thanks us profusely for the use of our bathtub and then "pays us back"
by filling up a bunch of pint glasses with extra whiskey that the
promoter gave him. Surreal night!
Vocals like Lorna Shore and Whitechapel don't quite cross that line to
me - the fact that *any* of their vocals are intelligible removes them
from the category I was talking about. I'm talking about the super
guttural shit that sounds like the lowest register those guys hit, but continuously. A lot of Cannibal Corpse's older shit (sorry, I don't
really know their different eras) is a good example, since you mentioned them. It's like the metal equivalent of mumble rap to me. Blech.
But hey, I'm not talking trying to talk shit if you love them, that's
just my personal taste - opinions are like assholes!

I kind of like the higher pitch screaming shit like some black metal has, though I draw the line at cheesy-ass shrieks. :P I have a soft spot for the over the top operatic style like a lot of NWOBHM bands have, since Iron Maiden was one of my first loves, but overall being a big punk and hardcore guy, good ol' fashioned yelling is where its at, which is probably one of the reasons
I still like a lot of thrashy stuff. Ultimately though, I think it's all pretty damn subjective.

I love that era of DM but I think the trick to it is not to think of the singer as a singer but instead as just another instrument. I never
listen to lyrics anyway, so that's always been pretty easy for me! The first band I started really studying lyrics for is King Diamond. Man, reading those lyric sheets while listening to those albums is like being immersed in a really awesome horror audiobook with insanely awesome
horror metal as a bonus!
It turned out to be a listening party for the release day of the new self-titled album, hosted by Dave (he wasn't there of course!). They'd play a song, then he'd talk about the song, about how the band wrote the song, about what he was going through when coming up with the lyrics and riffs, etc etc etc; then they'd play the next song... rinse and repeat until the album's done.
Dude, it felt like I was stuck talking to the drunk guy at the back of
the bar for 100 minutes! In this movie, I learned this about Mr.
Mustaine:
1) He can predict earthquakes.
2) He has no ill-will towards James or Lars... or Kirk.
3) His mother-in-law had alzheimers and fell off a cliff while
hiking in the desert (?!?!) and it took them a month to find the body (?!?!?!)
There were a few more gems but a future therapist will have to get them out of the repressed part of my brain. Either that or I'll remember them as soon as I hit send on this message!
Side story: I once opened up for the Misfits and talking to Jerry Only
was the only time I was nervous around a celebrity haha... He was like, "good show tonight, eh?" and I was like "uhhhmm I have to go now sir, I mean, not sir, but you know what I mean... I mean.. uhhm... yeah good show." and ran away haha
We should start an e-mag dedicated to spreading this rumor. I bet we
could find clues in obscure Exploited 7"s?
RIP WATTIE.

Not that familiar with him and his bands, but he has a pretty cool
voice. When he's screaming it occasionally slips from being more
"extreme" (or however you want to categorize it) fry into sounding just
a bit hair metaly, like Sebastian Bach's screaming or something. Sorry, not choosing my words very well, the coffee hasn't kicked in yet this morning. Regardless, it's kind of a cool mix. I'll have to check more
of his stuff out.
He's an interesting guy with a broad back catalog - started singing with Steve Vai, then in a thrash metal band called Strapping Young Lad, then
a solo work in a hard/melodic band called Ocean Machine (one of my favorite albums), then many albums under Devin Townsend Band or Devin Townsend Project, each quite a bit different.
All the time, while doing bizarre side projects like Punky Bruster (supposed to have an umlaut over the u) and Ziltoid the Omniscient.

I remember being a little shit pre-teen all into death metal and hearing King Diamond sing for the first time... man were we all rolling on the ground in stitches hearing that falsetto! But man, when I went back to
