    I used to turn to CBS for my news but it appears that they have been compromised by lawsuits from the current administration. I used to go to CNN.com for news but now the majority of their stories are behind a paywall.

    With what is currently going on, I've noticed an increasing amount of misinformation on YouTube masquerading as news. Example from yesterday. "Minnesota police are arresting ICE Agent" That's obvious BS, no reason to even read it.

    With all that being said, are their any site to get unbiased news?

    I haven't found any such thing. It's all slanted to the left or right or
    by geographic culture, etc. So, I use news aggregates and read a
    variety of sources from all sides and then do my own research. If I read
    just CNN, FOX, BBC, etc., then I wouldn't get the full picture.

    I agree - it seems almost ALL media sources are skewed in 2o26... in fact, I don't even see any unbiased new media sources!

    I used to hit NPR, Reuters - even CNN a decade ago... but they all seem to have a bias. Where is the dinner table where we listen to what eachother think, and then CHANGE our minds becaus of the other persons points; I think we're cooked.

    What gets me isn't just the slant, but the sheer gulf between different sources. People are living in completely different paradigms.

    Yet another reason why the 90s were great! Every group seems to have
    litmus tests for ideological purity these days. Back then, I would hear
    all kinds of interesting views being discussed among friends. Now,
    they're all like a mixture of support group and war council.

    As a side note, I have to say that I was raised to never bring up
    contentious issues at a dinner table. This policy served me well for
    a long time. In the last decade though, I've noticed that my restraint
    usually comes off as disagreement no matter what is being discussed.

    I wholeheartedly agree. Politics at the workplace even moreso. I had a boss during Trump's first term that was all-in with MAGA. I recall a couple of department lunches where he talked politics, not realizing or not caring that it made the people who worked under him and disagreed with his politics very uncomfortable.

    I mean, come on - that's just common sense.

    The best course of action is just to opt out of the news, you'll be
    happy as a clam :) It's all garbage today anyways...

    Right? That displays a complete lack of courtesy, regardless of how
    someone leans. Just enjoy the food that was graciously prepared, be
    courteous, and work towards a sense of harmony at the table. Some of us
    would like to come up for air every once in a while.

    I feel rather the same way about BBSing. aBSiNTHE has a "Politics and
    Religion" section not to encourage such topics, but rather to quarantine
    that stuff from the rest of the board. Callers can go wild in there (as
    long as they are not being rude or trolling) with any opinion that they
    like. When someone enters that area to read, they've bought the ticket
    to that ride. But, it had better not get bloviated in the other areas.

    I still can't bring myself to do that - it seems like the world turns even faster if I DON'T pay attention to the noise..

    Also, its a breaking point in Amerikkka right now; I lean right, after leaning left for m0re than a decade - I can't not look at the THINGS.

    Its the same thing(s) over and over these days... I keep falling back on the communities that I have that still foster discussions; BBSes, Element, Discord... somehow or another, I can surround myself with a vast myriad of PEOPLE who are still talking; can't lose that, or its lights out. :P

    Yep. This is a fair take - what news is reported and how its reported on is always going to be at least a little biased, even if unintentionally, and let's be honestly, it's usually intentional as hell these days. Reuters is pretty good, and I used to similarly like BBC way back in the day, although they definitely have their own slant on things, but I think the best way is to ingest it from a lot of varied places as you suggest.

    A neighbor told me when I was younger (I think we're close to the same
    age and were raised in the "it's not polite to talk about politics"
    era): Political opinions are like assholes -- everyone has one, and they
    all stink!

    Crass, but wise.

    That being said, it is really difficult living in a post-fact-based-news
    world. George Orwell tried to warn us. I don't know the answer, but
    a friend in Minneapolis has been sending me live updates from the ground
    and it's pretty insane out there...

    Dystopia ...coming to a city near you!

    Where are you finding this supposedly left slanted news? What sort of left wing policies are they advocating for?

    All I can find is slightly right of centre neoliberal news with virtue-signalling social commentary and wacko nut-job news for half-assed authoritarians masquerading as libertarians. It's not like anyone is calling for governments to nationalize assets or aggressively redistribute wealth, let alone do away with market economics.

    I think people have forgotten what left wing means, the Overton Window has slid so far to the right. I'm not advocating communism or anything, but some kind of balance in the media would be welcome, it's no wonder extremists have gained a foothold when the left has no voice at all.

    The left-right dichotomy is a reductive way of looking at a wide
    variety of issues and diversity of thought, but it is often useful as
    imperfect shorthand when discussing bias from a bird's-eye view.

    Allsides.com's analysis lines up pretty well with the current
    consensus of left vs. right-leaning bias in the media. Example: https://www.allsides.com/media-bias/media-bias-chart

    That being said, I've found that even those listed in the center often
    have a bias one way or the other. It's hard to remove the element of
    human perspective from analysis of human affairs.

    1. You believe that most people have become ignorant of a true
    definition of left wing.

    2. You believe that there is a dearth or complete absence of
    left-slanted news sources.

    3. You believe that the current center of politics has moved drastically
    to the right over a certain amount of time.

    4. You believe that extreme right-wing positions are becoming prevalent
    in mainstream news.

    5. You believe that the true left wing does not have a voice in the
    current news environment.

    6. You believe that there is no balance between left and right wing perspectives in the media.

    It would be useful to know your view of the true definition of left
    wing, and what a truly left wing news source would look like to you.
    Then, possibly someone here could be of use in your search.
