add it to the telnet bbs guide. Oh wait, we don't accept new users.
What the fuck is the point then?

They just want us all to know what we're collectively missing out on... wh is probably a stock BBS with some old Night Owl CDROMs in their file conferences and a few of the same old message networks and door games ever else has. Oh noes! ;)

What? Since when? That's pretty weird, I thought it was open to all. I d add my board 3 years ago, though so I haven't checked recently. Have you contacted Diamond Dave?

He meant someone added a BBS to telnetbbsguide.com but set their BBS to "closed", which would defeat the purpose of adding it to a site that advertises you have a BBS up.

My bbs was added without me doing anything. So there is that.
Wonder if they scan the wider internet for TELNET addys??? Hmmmm.

I recall there was a similar site that popped up a few years ago that
was doing discovery scans. I think it might have been 8bitboyz.com/bbs-directory?
I wondered how they cut through the vaaaaaaast majority of results that were garbage or otherwise unrelated - perhaps hand curated, or maybe the scans were just for verification of an inventory seeded from another
site like telnetbbsguide.com *shrug*

Thats what I noticed... not sure if someONE has to first tell the guide about a bbS, but it does 'call' them to verify they're still active for listings; thats cool.

Back in the day, one of the 1337 BBSes had that exact BBS up and
running - go to the door menu and select some obscure option and you'd
drop into the *real* BBS. very cool, indeed.

It has to be scraping other sources for info, possibly such as the sbbslist (https://synchro.net/sbbslist.html), which updates daily with
any new SBBS systems that get set up and have the sbbslist export event enabled (which seems to be on by default).

I believe this is the biggest reason why SBBS earns its reputation for having so many stock boards. By the time the sysop has learned how to customize it, it's too late - everyone has already seen their default "Synchronet" logon page plop on top of the Telnet BBS Guide's list
of "new" BBSes, and no one ever visits any of those.
Once I get my new SFF PC and move my game servers to a Mini PC, I'm planning on installing an instance of SBBS as a game server. What do I need to do to make sure it stays private?
Good point. IMO, sbbs is the very best BBS software available in 2o25 -
if I could do it all over again, I'd use Sync - but I'd HEAVILY modify
it... at this point, I've completely changed EVERYTHING @ 2oFB - and in hindsight it would have been better to use sbbs...

Oh yeah, we had one like that IIRC. A more popular choice in my local scene was to run "FrontPorch" for FrontDoor, and have an open public
board as one option and a private 1337 board as another.

I never heard of that, sounds easy! I suppose you'd hit esc 3 times for the 1337 BBS and twice for the vanilla BBS, or something like that.
It basically just put a little lightbar menu before loading your BBS (afte the traditional FrontDoor double escape) to let you run multiple boards on same system. Several SysOps used it in my AC, but every time I mention it (almost) no one else has ever heard of it - I guess its another one of the
