  • ANSI Display speed...

From Shurato@911:1208/2 to All on Fri Nov 21 21:55:00 2025
What speed should I pick in my ANSI editor to emulate around 38400? It's 0-255, which doesn't tell me much... Does anyone have experience with this?
I tried asking in fsxnet and didn't get much help.

I imagine most people don't use that 'feature' you speak of. So you may have to actually, you know, test different settings on your own and see what works best for you and/or your users.

I have scrollers here, and while I don't try to slow them down, I try to allow users to be able to cancel them (even though they only probably take a second or two (or less) to display on most connections). If a user wants to take a more in-depth look at the ansi, most clients, including terminals have a 'scroll back' feature. YMMV.

    Regards,
    Nick

Yep, unfortunately I think this is the answer. I don't believe those display speeds in correlate directly to modem speeds *and* I also think they're dependent to the speed of machine they're being displayed on, so you'll just want to experiment.

Ok, it's 0-100 and only thedraw, not aciddraw so it's not for scrollers.
Not very helpful, it actually adds empty text between each character...

It ends up not working any way. Thedraw is the one with the speed option,
not acid draw. The draw only allows for single screens, not scrollers.

I always save w/o any speed settings/codes IN the ANSi, and make those changes using the BBS software. In Mystic I think the code is (! = | so it doesn't trigger Mystic codes) !DI##...
    ## =
    00 = No baud emulation
    01-09 = 300baud
    10-19 = 1200baud
    20-29 = 2400baud
    30-39 = 4800baud
    40-49 = 9600baud
    50-59 = 19200baud
    60-69 = 28800baud
    70-79 = 38400baud
    80-89 = 57600baud
    90-99 = 115200baud

Yeah, Ele doesn't have a way to control display speeds. If it did, I
    certainly wouldn't have asked this.

There is no good way of displaying ansi animations with ansi. That's why I made an animation system and icy_play - something like that is the only sane way to have clean animations in modern times.

Baud rate emulation is not really supported by many terminals (oh I need to look for icy_term :)).

If any1 is interested I can try to explain how the icy system works - it gives good results.
