...beautiful, my beautiful... Chinese Spy Balloon!!!

So this morning I am watching the local news (NBC affiliate), and they
mention that a UFO was sighted over Montana and US officials had determined
it was a spy balloon, likely from China. Apparently it wafted across the US-Canadian border sometime mid-week.

They also said that the decision on what to do about it went all the way up
to President Biden, who said we couldn't shoot it down because it might "fall and hurt someone."

Now, Montana is a very large and very sparsely populated state. Some of
the states it would have had to have crossed through to get to its current position (apparently over Kansas City, MO) are also very sparsely
populated. Plenty of opportunity to shoot it down and have it likely not
fall on anything, except a corn field or a former government missle silo
site.

Now that they've waited until it is over more populated areas, they are going to let it continue its flight across the country, until it reaches the Gulf
or the Atlantic or falls down on its own rather than shoot it down.

So, if you live in its path, you might want to go outside and give the
Chinese government something to look at. :(

Well.. at least it was detected. But I am surprised that if
they can send rockets to land on comets, why can't it be
possible to send something with a camera to fly by or even

Especially with it moving relatively slow compared to airships with their
own propulsion (sp?). From the path it is taking, I am guessing it is following the jet stream.

I suspect it was detected by civilians because many folks in areas where
the skies were going to be clear were probably getting ready to look for
the comet and then noticed they could see something in daylight. I suspect
it was only reported publicly because civilians saw it.

Not sure if you have since gotten more of this story but Canada was aware of this spy balloon heading towards the USA for several days and had informed
your gov't of its existance, not to suggest your people would not have seen
it just as quickly once it entered your air space..

Not sure if you have since gotten more of this story but Canada was aware of this spy balloon heading towards the USA for several days and had informed your gov't of its existance, not to suggest your people would not have seen it just as quickly once it entered your air space..

I don't doubt that Canada told our government, but it did not become public knowledge until civilians spotted it. That makes me wonder how often it happens.

The Pentagon eventually confirmed that it was launched from mainland China,
so that is where it is from. I am guessing it only got shot down, after crossing the US, because the public knew about it. Otherwise China may
have eventually gotten it back.

The Pentagon also says it was a spy balloon. What would be ironic would be
if it really was some sort of weather balloon that was being tested to see
if it would make it all the way back to China after circling the globe. I doubt that is the case but it would be ironic.

I am sure it was reporting back plenty of data until the point where it got shot down.
