• One step forward...

From Kurt Weiske@618:300/1 to All on Friday, August 06, 2021 09:26:00
I had a day off of work and was tracing down a weird AC hum reverberating through our house. Turned out it was my subwoofer/pc speaker system on its
way out, they were probably 10 years old at this point.

I replaced them with some cheapo speakers I had lying around, and decided to take the time to vacuum under my desk and dress the cables.

Of course, in the process of moving cables around, I damaged an HDMI cable running from primary my monitor to the PC. No problem, I thought, I have
lots of HDMI cables lying around. Look at the monitor end to realize I'd had to buy a DVI to HDMI cable. Where am I going to find one of those? Ordered
one on Amazon, and in the meantime ended up using my secondary monitor as my primary monitor with a spare analog to DVI adapter.

(My video card has one DisplayPort and one HDMI port. Why, I have no
    clue...)

This has got to be a grand conspiracy to get us to buy more cables.

Yes, some of these things (especially if they're constantly powered on) seem to be failing after a while... And many of them don't have an interchangeable power supply. :-/

I managed to knock (kind of) a plate with milk and cereals, milk pouring down the table, on to the chair, down on the parquet flooring... :-O

I never thought that little milk could create such a big mess. :-O

So that was a rough awakening. :)

    Best regards
    Bjorn

There is also the fact that the durable version of a thing may be five cents more expensive, so the consumer would pick the cheap short-living version anyway...

    Very true.
