Title: Lady Webster's Gingerbread

Yield: 9 Servings
8 oz Plain flour
8 oz Treacle

4 oz Treacle
+=AND=+
4 oz Syrup
3 oz Brown sugar
1 c Whole milk
1 ts Mixed spice
4 oz Butter
1 lg Egg
1/2 ts Baking soda
2 tb Ground ginger
Mix all dry ingredients together, melt butter and treacle
in the milk. When dissolved and well mixed pour on to the
beaten egg. Mix in the dry ingredients (and add 2 or 3 oz
of candied peel if desired).
Pour into well greased tin of 2 pound size. Bake in a
moderate oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The mixture should be
slack like a thick brown sauce (added Lady Riddell-Webster
at W. R. I. show).
