Hello Everybody,
The Oscars. What a performance it was. Chris Rock at the helm.
Live, on stage, cracking a joke about Will Smith's wife -
"Jeda, I love you ... GI Jane 2; can't wait to see it."
~ Chris Rock, looking straight at Jada Pinkett Smith's short-cropped
hair (see suffers from adopecia)
That did it. Crack a joke about another man's wife. In front of a live audience. And not for the first time at the Oscars. Yep. He did do it
before, in 2016. Different joke, just as offenseive (if not more so),
but same person as butt of his joke.
Will Smith was sitting in the audience. Right next to his wife.
As Chris Rcck insulted her. At first he rolled his eyes. Then he
remembered what happened in 2016. No way he was going to let that
nitwit get away with insulting his wife a second time.
Without saying a word, Will Smith got up from his seat and walked
on stage and slugged Chris Rock hard across his left cheek. Then he
calmly walked back to his seat, sat down, and mouthed to the cameras
"keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth."
The band kept playing as if nothing at all had happened.
A comic got assaulted for telling a joke, and what happens?
The guy who commits the criminal act goes back on stage, collects
his award (an Oscar), then apologizes to everybody - except the person
who he assualted. And the crowd cheers.
Being a comic is a dangerous profession. It also proves comics get no
respect. Really. When will people who complain about Hollywood's
"cancel culture" stand up for a comic who got assualted for telling a
joke?
