Russian airline Aeroflot is considering buying eight leased Airbus aircraft. They are planes that are stuck in Russia. The transaction is possible because the European Union offers financiers of the aircraft an opportunity to get rid of the aircraft, Russian state news agency Tass reported.
The EU would make an exception to the sanctions for the planes for this month. Aeroflot will make a decision on the purchase on Monday at the earliest. This concerns aircraft of the Airbus A330 type.
Most of the approximately 500 foreign aircraft that are stuck in Russia have been leased. Airlines rent planes for a certain period of time and can return them to the owner at the end of the contract, or purchase them. However, Russia previously passed a law that prevents foreign planes from departing from Moscow without permission.
