So much for the electonic version of the dog ate my homework!

Well, I didn't have to. I went online at the Ubuntu Forums, and
entered the error message I was getting in the search box. One
of the results I got referred to what appeared to me to be the
Linux version of chkdsk. I ran the first command I saw, and got
an error message. Turned out it wasn't the right command for
this particular installation. Saw another one referenced in
another message thread, ran that command, and it fixed it. So, I
didn't have to reload anything.
Everything is up and running, and already in the possession of
the pastor and his family. I brought it to church with me
yesterday, and he took it with them. He said last night it

It was basically the same command, but with different switches (apparently, I didn't have the ext4 file system loaded on the
laptop in question, but either the ext3 or ext2. I don't
remember which one. But, the first command I saw referenced the
ext4 file system. That's the one that didn't work.

Actually, she (not sure which one it was, the pastor's wife is
the oldest of 8 kids, 5 of them female) is probably both. <G>

Apparently, however, the file system on the hard drive got
corrupted, as Linux won't boot from the hard drive. So, if the

probably have to wipe it and start from scratch.
It tried to boot, and drops to the Linux equivalent of a command
prompt (a terminal session, if I recall correctly), and gives an
error message about "failed to mount file system" or words to
that effect.
