You can use it with or without a computer, it needs ac power and
connection if used without a computer.
They are offering it to me at a special 1/2 price of $34.95 with 1 yr ->LG> service.
I'll be really intested to see how this thread goes, as I'm thinking
about getting rid of my $30/month VOIP service. I'd like to learn about ->whether Magicjack is as dependable and clear for communication as a land ->line phone, or whether it's hit-or-miss. In working from home, I
often have to host teleconference calls, so it's important that whatever ->phone hardware and service being used is 99% dependable.
For the non-Plus version - has your experience been dependable, Lee?

If he likes it, I might get one to replace my voice line. Also, I got
it set up and tested out some before I gave it to him. I was able to
make a modem-to-modem BBS call with that line also.

I just ordered something called Ooma which was being featured byþ RNET 2.10U: ILink: Techware BBS þ Los Angeles, Ca þ www.techware.dynip.com
Woot! for $145 today. It is a VOIP system which supposedly is 100%
free of phone charges for life--I just have to pay gov't mandated
taxes of $3.75/mo but everything else is free. That gives one
line, caller id, voice mail etc, etc, etc. It plugs directly into
the router--no computer needed for it to work.
At first I just poo-poo'd it as being too expensive. Then I read
the thousands of RAVE reviews from users about the clarity of
calls, quality of service, ease of us, free long distance, etc.,
so I sprang for one. If it works as it says it will, it will have
a 6 month payback.
It will be here in about a week so after I get it hooked up, I will
report back for those that might be inerested.

...I'd be interested in what your experience is. Was doing some 'research' BM>...about a year or so ago on this kind of alternative phone service; Ooma BM>...(never heard of it before then) was rated better than MagicJack but at BM>...the time I couldn't make up my mind.
...Using the cell phone when the land line is tied up here was acceptable BM>...(though a little expensive) and now back to a situation where cheap long BM>...distance would be useful.
