Did/Does anyone here watch Halt and Catch Fire on AMC? They
have it in re-runs in the early morning hours again.

I never heard of this one! But I like the premise as a kind of historical fict
on told from the sidelines of would-be innovators.

Yes. I enjoyed it. I like historical fiction and the "would-
be innovators" bit is what got me interested in it.
I just finished the first episode. They kind of glossed over the part how the
could get away with "cloning" the BIOS of the IBM/PC, but the episode ends wit
all the IBM lawyers arriving at Cardiff Electric walking into the boardroom. , I hope episode 2 doesn't disappoint.

My recollection is that it does not disappoint. :)
Lined up next, the UK series, Humans.

That is another good one, although I liked the first season or two better than the most-recent one.
Into 1st season episode 2, I am getting the impression that in that world there
is a sub-industry of harvesting/stealing synths and reprogramming them for nefa
ious purposes? Is that basically it? And meanwhile, they explore the ethics a
d the notion of having those things working as slaves for humans?

That sounds about right. :) I think some of the inconsistent behavior becomes more easy to understand later on... as with many other stories about clones, robots, synths, etc., they start to have minds of their own as time passes. They develop a sense of self, of self-preservation, etc., like we do.
Westworld took a better approach. They didn't proselytise so much on the ethics/morals and artificial
sentience/conscientiousness. They concentrated on the mystery of the creator, the secret of "maze",
and the liberation or escape of the robots to the "outside".
Watchmen is another series I recently watched, and enjoyed a lot more then I th
ught I would. The time shifting in this series was very well done, as opposed >o the confusing mess that was Westworld Season 2. I went into this series thin
ing I wouldn't like it at all, but ended up really enjoying it. It's got a lot
more going on then you might think.
